It's that time of the year, when people start thinking about New Year's resolutions. We all start to think about how we want to improve our lives for the future. Many times this includes working out, weight loss, new habits, new patterns, new jobs, new friends, etc. But what about new ways of thinking?
Most of the time, our thoughts about ourselves and our current situation, are barriers to our personal growth. We often allow our minds to hijack our lives. Through our thoughts, we hover above our lives and watch it take place, instead of being in it. This generally is due to perceptions of lack. It can be exhausting to work against ourselves in this manner. It obviously is self-defeating, but it can also be self-rewarding. How so? The big reward is a safe and comfortable life, with no risk, no challenge, and no opportunity for failure. Therefore no return due to no investment.
What happens when we approach life in a defensive mode, is pretty much nothing. That may sound negative, but talking to yourself about your life won't make it different. It just confirms and ingrains long standing patterns of fear, self loathing, and inaction. If we truly want our lives to be different, we have to take action. It sounds simplistic, but you'd be surprised at how often people expect their lives to change, without putting in the effort and making changes. We must have an intention for our lives, versus just sitting and hoping that it will change. It takes doing the work. This means stepping outside our comfort zone, and doing something new. There are no other paths to "change-ville".
As my daughters will attest, I've had a long standing motto of "we get what we create." What are you creating in your life ?
